
The 2026 Yangtze River Delta International Triathlon and the Triathlon China T51.5 Shanghai Open will kick off on April 19 in the area surrounding Shanghai’s Qingpu Grand View Garden and Yuandang Lake. The race course will weave through ancient towns, rice fields and classical gardens.

As of now, more than 30 elite athletes from over 10 countries and regions have registered for the elite category. In the men’s field, Spanish triathlon legend Javier Gomez, a ten-time world champion and silver medalist at the 2012 London Olympics, will lead the pack. The women’s field will be headlined by Julie Derron of Switzerland, who won silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Other notable competitors include New Zealand’s Mike Phillips, ranked 25th among professional male triathletes worldwide, Australia’s Brandon Copeland, ranked 37th, Nina Derron, Julie Derron’s sister, and Switzerland’s Alanis Siffert.

As hosts, Chinese triathletes will compete alongside the world’s best, showcasing homegrown talent and adding to the excitement of the event.
