The 2026 Waterside Melodies opened with lively performances on Saturday at Shangda Central Park, as enthusiastic music fans defied intermittent rain to enjoy a star-studded show in Qingpu District.
Set against a backdrop of clear waters and expansive lawns, the festival features an 88-meter eye-catching stage built along the waterfront, creating a unique natural concert venue.
Top-tier Chinese singers and rappers including Jane Zhang, Ma Siwei, Wang Yitai and Li Jialong took the stage in rotation, delivering energetic live performances for the audience.
Rain failed to dampen the atmosphere. Music lovers traveled across China to Qingpu, gathering by the waterfront for a passionate musical feast during the May Day holiday.

As a flagship IP integrated with Qingpu's "six industries" development strategy, the festival links popular local attractions including Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, Panlong Xintiandi, local outlet malls and a coffee carnival, allowing attendees to experience the full breadth of Qingpu's culture, tourism and commerce in one visit.
Stage lights and water curtain projections took on a softer glow through the rain, with the audience swaying to the rhythm as melodies filled the air. Fans enjoyed the joy of live music, with the venue's vibrant energy remaining undiminished all day.
Organizers provided comprehensive on-site services to ensure a smooth experience, including large-scale free parking areas, subway shuttle buses and themed specialty markets.

"I saw Ma Siwei's clips on Douyin and decided to come right away," said Ling Jiawei, who traveled from Baoshan District specifically for the festival. "The venue is spacious and comfortable, driving here was congestion-free, and the free parking plus shuttle buses are so convenient. The rainy weather didn't ruin my good mood at all."
Fans from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces also expressed positive feedback, saying they came for the music festival and took the opportunity to explore ancient towns, taste local coffee and visit commercial areas. "Qingpu has perfectly combined music, water town scenery, culture, tourism and food. It's absolutely worth visiting during the May Day holiday," one out-of-town attendee said.
The musical celebration will continue on Sunday, with another heavyweight lineup taking the stage. Featured artists include Jam Hsiao, Justin Huang, and Wang Xi, promising nonstop music and ongoing carnival festivities through the final day of the holiday.
