JD Now announced the launch of a new AI-powered helmet, marking a latest step to combine cutting edge AI with real life application scenario.
The new facility combines a range of core features including an AI voice assistant, traffic route guidance from top delivery riders, one-touch emergency assistance and verification of merchant premises.
This helps riders find their way, keeps their hands free and ensures they can understand delivery notes, thereby further enhancing the delivery experience. The helmets will be rolled out in stages in the near future, and the first batch will be distributed free of charge to JD’s full-time riders, with the scheme gradually being extended to all riders thereafter.
The feature built into JD Takeaway’s AI smart helmets effectively brings the ‘living maps’ accumulated over many years by veteran ‘top rider’ couriers directly into the helmets. Rather than cold, impersonal latitude and longitude navigation, it provides real-time guidance from an experienced courier right in the rider’s ear: ‘Go straight from the South Gate, head to the white statue, turn left, and Building 21 is the second one on the left.’
Data from the internal trial shows that, with the help of the ‘Top Rider’s Guidance’ feature, riders save an average of around three minutes per delivery. What once required years of trial and error is now enhanced by AI, enabling riders to deliver more efficiently and providing a better user experience.
In addition, the helmet is equipped with a one-touch SOS emergency call function, allowing riders to summon help immediately in the event of an emergency, providing an extra layer of safety.
The AI-powered smart assistant can also automatically analyse order notes and proactively issue voice reminders before the rider arrives.
