Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University has launched China’s first integrated Sensory Disorders Clinic via its internet hospital platform, pioneering an innovative whole-course diagnosis and rehabilitation model targeting impaired vision, hearing, smell, taste and balance functions. The new clinic builds a closed-loop medical service system covering precise triage, multidisciplinary diagnosis and personalized functional rehabilitation, offering standardized and continuous care for patients with complex or multiple sensory dysfunctions.
Traditionally, patients with overlapping or unexplained sensory problems often face fragmented medical visits. They need to travel across multiple departments for examinations, yet struggle to identify the root cause of their symptoms. Even after diagnosis, many lack professional guidance for systematic rehabilitation and long-term follow-up management. According to Professor Zhou Xingtao, president of Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, the newly established sensory clinic precisely addresses these clinical pain points by restructuring the traditional disease-based treatment model into a function-centered integrated service.
Leveraging the hospital’s leading disciplinary strengths in vision, hearing, balance, smell and taste treatment, the clinic has assembled a top-tier expert team covering all five sensory fields. For complicated and intractable cases, the platform initiates multidisciplinary team consultations involving rehabilitation specialists, radiologists and neurologists, enabling integrated diagnosis, joint treatment and optimized clinical decision-making.
The clinic features fully connected online and offline medical pathways to deliver seamless and efficient patient care. Patients can complete preliminary assessment and online consultation through the internet hospital to avoid unnecessary offline visits. Those requiring further in-person treatment will receive precise systematic referrals to specialized ophthalmology, otolaryngology or stomatology sub-specialties. For patients with multi-sensory disorders and complex underlying causes, targeted MDT sessions are activated for comprehensive evaluation and customized treatment plans. In addition, long-term rehabilitation guidance and regular remote follow-ups are continuously provided online to sustain stable recovery.
The launch marks the nation’s first official medical platform focused on comprehensive five-sense functional health.
