To explore the hotel in depth, I reserved the complimentary CAN Journey. Guided by a CAN Host, we wandered across the property. Rather than casting a superficial glance at decorative pieces, we delved into 26 artistic and cultural anecdotes tucked throughout the architecture. Its service team comprises talents from more than a dozen nations, offering daily support in up to 17 languages. Following the CAN Host, I realised the entire hotel functions as a sprawling art venue. Two lacquer paintings in the junior lobby strike a graceful balance of strength and softness. The grand Dream of the Red Chamber mural — crafted from 200,000 sheets of gold leaf in the main lobby — echoes the nearby water town stone carvings. The magnificent Caisson Ceiling featuring the Caisson Ceiling of Golden Dragon Frolicking with a Pearl and the iconic vintage spiral staircase invite pause and admiration around every corner.
Rise early and head to the Carousel Restaurant, the revolving restaurant on the 30th floor. A lavish Chinese Western breakfast buffet spreads out before you. As the restaurant rotates gently, Guangzhou’s panoramic skyline unfolds before your eyes.
For authentic local street style charm at midday, Lai Wan A Cantonese Kitchen is the perfect destination. The restaurant recreates the lively ambience of Lychee Bay Night Market, complete with oyster shell walls and lychee trees. Dim sum trolleys glide between tables. Silky tofu pudding and lively folk storytelling complement delicate steamed treats and sweet desserts, serving up the genuine flavours of Xiguan and an immersive taste of old Guangzhou vitality.
On a leisurely afternoon, indulge in a limited edition afternoon tea at the Waterfall Restaurant. Soothing garden themed decor surrounds you, with sweet and savoury bites paired with aromatic tea. A towering cascading water feature comes into view, calming your senses amid the serene setting.
When your day long wander draws to a close, retreat to your guestroom for rest. I was charmed by the thoughtful welcome amenity and the plush lamb toy embroidered with my name. The newly redesigned rooms elegantly incorporate Lingnan aesthetics. Screens, bird cage shaped lighting, floral tile artworks and lacquer craft details infuse every corner with Lingnan character. Luxurious down bedding, fine linens and refined soft furnishings melt away the fatigue from a full day of exploration, promising a peaceful, restful night.
