China's Double Ninth Festival, which falls on October 18 this year, is a day to honor senior residents.
The city-level agenda covers sports activites, senior service fairs, anti-fraud campaigns, a gala for seniors, and health related events. The campaign brings legal education, on-site support and cultural events to senior residents.
A senior service fair will open on the festival day at the Silver Hair Store in Putuo District. Around 60 organizations, 15 top-tier hospitals and roughly 220 volunteers will offer convenience services, policy and legal consultations, free medical checkups, health education and intangible cultural heritage experiences.
Shanghai will also release its first list of silver-hair-friendly shopping malls and specialty senior stores, based on trial construction guidelines rolled out in 2025.
Sports authorities will leverage more than 200 senior fitness hubs to provide free fitness assessments, basic health screenings, personalized exercise guidance and chronic disease intervention. Community health centers will continue health outreach, free screenings and family doctor sign-up services at senior care facilities.
Authorities are strengthening legal safeguard to protect seniors' assets. An anti-fraud campaign runs from October 15 to 22, raising awareness on scams and safeguard retirement savings among elderly citizens.

Lawyers and notaries will provide free legal consultations at public events.
A full lineup of cultural and recreational events enriches seniors' daily life. A carnival will be held in Xuhui District between October 22 and 25, featuring zones for senior care display, age-friendly tech, entertainment, fitness, anti-fraud and financial literacy, alongside board game tournaments, charity markets and stamp-collecting activities.
Shanghai Open University and the city's senior university will host a carnival of performances including fashion shows, dramas, instrumental music and recitations. The second Shanghai Senior Education Exhibition will open at the Shanghai Exhibition Center in November, launching 20 new city-level courses for learners.
Sports competitions, cultural exhibitions and district-level community programs enrich the month's agenda, offering diverse public welfare experiences for elderly residents across the city.
The Shanghai Senior Sports Association will launch 14 sports and public care activities. Open registration events include the Jinshan fitness walk and the 10th Shanghai Senior Bridge Tournament. Public spectators are welcome to watch hill-climbing, traditional fitness Qigong and aerobics demonstrations throughout the campaign.
Citywide exhibitions and themed displays further promote respect for the elderly.
