The scruffy green dog that has become one of this city's most photographed residents has a new look, and a new job.
The topiary sculpture in Jing'an, known affectionately to locals as "Scruffy Puppy," has been restyled in full tennis regalia: a lake-blue sun visor perched atop its shaggy head, a giant tennis ball clutched between its paws. It now presides over the Shanghai Rolex Masters' official second venue, opened at the Fosing Flour Mill on No. 423 Guangfu Road.
The pup's unmistakable silhouette remains intact. Its coat is still planted with the same summer mix — Phoenix green sedge, Everest sedge and golden-leaf sedge — and it clings to its signature floral vest and deliberately unkempt trim. The oversized tennis ball, however, is new, fashioned from stonecrop.
Organizers have leaned into the makeover, offering exclusive perks to visitors who turn up for a photo.

They have also commissioned a full set of tennis-themed emoji stickers — because in Shanghai, even a shrubbery knows how to work a crowd.
