Drama blending art and AI heart-touching

A snapshot of the show

A drama “Life Continuation” that honors organ donors in an artistic form has made its debut in April, blending art and technological means such as artificial intelligence.

The unique drama portrays the story behind organ donors. It tells the experience of a young man who was just admitted to a medical college and sacrificed his life to rescue a man who fell into water.

The drama jointly created by Chongqing Red Cross Society and Shanghai-based Fu Shou Yuan International Group incorporates technological means such as AI to recreate through stage art the selfless decisions of the donor’s family and the rebirth story of the recipient, bringing the audience to applause and tears.

A man reads the story of organ donors.

“Life Continuation” immerses the audience through vivid performances and the progressive development of the plot, allowing them to experience the internal struggles and decisions of organ donors and their families, as well as the gratitude and respect of organ transplant recipients after gaining a new lease on life, making it very heart-touching.

It is hoped to combine technology with humanities to make the stories of donors visible to more people and pass on the spirit of the “life relay”from generation to generation, said Wu Yibo, Chief Brand Officer of the group.

The show will tour at theaters and cultural venues in Shanghai in the coming months.

Shanghai pioneered body donation in 1982. In 2001, it introduced China’s first local regulation on body donation and established the Shanghai Memorial Park for Body Donors.

Shanghai had 134,000 registered organ donors and had completed 1,269 organ donations by the end of last year, saving over 3,700 organ-failure patients.
