chapter 3
The final
Victor recently told me to meet a friend from Bordeaux who grew up with him. I was amazed when his friend shared the incredible story of walking from Bordeaux to Iran.
I asked Victor when I could meet him in China, and he told me that he is currently in Xinjiang on his way to Shanghai and then Vietnam. Their crazy story shocked me once again.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch at our favorite French duck restaurant and were captivated by his friend’s incredible story of traveling from Spain to China, passing through Russia, Xia Jiang, Shanghai, Yunnan, Vietnam, and India.
It was such an amazing tale and we had a delightful conversation. The French gentleman also shared with me that he often hitchhikes by simply walking or using his finger to flag down cars for a ride with the help of friendly drivers. My goodness! Victor even mentioned that he plans to embark on the same adventure in the future.
I learned that the French are very brave, although I used to believe they gave up quickly in front of the Germans during World War II.Superise
Do you still recall your friend from when you were a child?I respect their friendship. And what else we can learn from their story?Maybe we also need spend more time to think about our life beside job.
After several years, Victor returned to his hometown and embarked on a journey around the world. We reunited at Monsieur An’s restaurant when he came back to Shanghai. I was so proud to see him and all the changes he had undergone. He told me about his travels to Vietnam, India, Iran, and more. He has truly become a new legend. Currently, he is in Singapore, which I find quite impressive. He has introduced me to a different side of French culture - one that is bold enough to explore the world - something I didn’t know much about before aside from what Oliva had shared with me.
Let’s go back to Eddie. After Eddie turned down our offer for a share of the restaurant French duck place, he started pushing away clients with the floor manager Momo on the same night as Olivia’s roommate’s wedding dinner at the restaurant Sushi U next door. I also received an invitation and visited them for my first taste of cognac. You can imagine how out of touch I was with the world. We managed to make our chef angry from our perspective.I believe that he got more angry from his perspective. My god. It is an art for balancing different perspectives.
Since Eddie is my friend and knows that I’m not like most people, he doesn’t blame me and still talks to me. Later, he left for Australia and the Middle East area, and we eventually lost touch with him. If I had better communication skills, I could have given better advice, like offering free shares when buying shares together. At that time and even now, I knew nothing about these things. It’s great that he is now in Paris doing well - all good on his side!
The activities they are engaged in are similar to what we do in China. We have a saying, “Travel thousands of miles and read thousands of books” and “See all living beings, see oneself.” How many of us can reach this level?
I really miss the time we spent together after Victor’s court case, like playing a konami soccer game on the sofa. We were just simple like kids. Maybe that’s why others see us as not being good at business. My local Chinese roommates are doing similar things and there aren’t many cultural differences.
Above all, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the labor court judge. The success of Le Petit Card has brought me a new friend, Mathild, who is Victor’s manager. Thanks to Mathild, I was introduced to his boss who oversees the restaurant business at WS. He expressed interest in partnering with Jean from Peninsula Hotel for a restaurant venture, but unfortunately it didn’t work out.
Next, Monsieur An or Mathild or………Let`s see
