Shanghai’s art scene has welcomed “TOMORROW,” a new exhibition blending Chinese and French avant-garde creativity.

Running through May 15 at Roche Bobois’ Shanghai flagship, the showcase explores technology, history, and artistic expression through nearly 30 cross-media works.

Presented by ArtC AC and Roche Bobois, “TOMORROW” features four international artists — Jody Xiong, Liu Jiayu, Leo Caillard, and Julia A. Etedi — who reinterpret the theme “Beginning and Future” through sculpture, painting, and digital art.

Among the highlights is Xiong’s “Honor History, Create History,” a digital work unveiled at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Created in collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, the AI-driven piece reimagines classical sculptures in motion — Apollo takes on Venus in a game of ping-pong, a discus thrower becomes a skateboarding angel over Notre Dame, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace morphs into a diving platform.

Landmarks like the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe transform into dynamic arenas, blurring the lines between past and present. Caillard challenges tradition in his signature series, “Hipster in Stone,” digitally outfitting classical sculptures with sunglasses and sneakers.

“Tomorrow” is now open at Roche Bobois’ Shanghai flagship.
