Foodies in Delta beckoned as a seafood feast is cooked up

If you are looking for a seafood destination that is within 90 minutes’ drive from Shanghai, Qidong in East China’s Jiangsu Province is exactly the place.

Whenever you visit the city, come hungry as it is a real heaven for seafood lovers.

Since February, Qidong’s seafood market has been flooded with fresh mackerels, red shrimps and yellow croakers.

The city is a place to view sunrise.

Local fish is delicate in taste with tender flesh like tofu, and is best eaten steamed.

The brightly colored red shrimps are favored by locals and boiling it in water for a while, accompanied with liquor, green onions, ginger, salt and sugar, is the most traditional way of eating with Qidong flavor. Take a sip, and the fragrance will linger in your mouth….

It boasts a 178-kilometer picturesque coastline.

After hibernating through the winter, the shrimps have grown fat and strong. Just blanch them, no culinary skills are needed.

Qidong, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, is where the Yangtze River, the East China Sea, and the Yellow Sea converge. It’s the first place in Jiangsu to greet the sunrise and boasts a 178-kilometer picturesque coastline.

A serene scenery

The Qidong Tulip Flower Field Art Festival has started at the Haishang Mingyue Tulip Park along the sea, featuring diversified activities such as hanfu (traditional Chinese attire) shows, flower boat tours, flower sea camping, flower appreciation, and a cultural and tourism market.

You can also cycle along the sea, view sunrise, or fly kites during the festival, which will run through April 6.

Qidong has also released a map of its camping sites with tent, grassland, music and barbecue, which includes its Diehu Lake Park, Hua’er Camp Site, Nantong Jiangtian Ecological Garden, and Dingcanggang Riverside Sports Park.

The first Qidong Low-Altitude Flight Carnival will run between March 28 and 30 in Jianghai Lanwan Tourist Resort, offering a visual feast. People will get up-close views of the awesome flight shows and experience hot-air balloon rides, enjoying the magnificent view of the confluence of the Yangtze River and the East China Sea.
