Meet ELG – Shanghai’s Pioneering Special Education Provider

ELG, set out to impact thousands of lives in China by offering children, parents and educators access to sustainable and innovative special education, developmental, behavioral, and mental health services via their original day program and specialist-led therapeutic services and interventions. The mission? ELG is committed to being a center of excellence – working with parents as partners to prepare children with disabilities to become full participants in their schools, families, and communities.

This year, ELG celebrates its 18th year milestone as Shanghai’s pioneering special education provider.

Established in 2006 when there were very few services available to support kids with disabilities, ELG founders, Monte Rosen, Dr. Shari Rosen, and Andrew Hill, were often told that what they wanted to achieve was ‘a pipe dream.’ Fast forward 18 years, ELG has now grown to include three programs: Early Childhood (2 – 6 YO), Young Learners (7 – 14 YO), and Pre-vocational (14+ YO) in Shanghai, with a growing multilingual staff dedicated to helping children with disabilities in China.

Over these years, ELG has had a big influence in the special education scene and has started working more with the local community. What sets them apart? ELG believes in looking at children holistically, caring about the impact on each family, and treating the whole family as a unit. As co-founder and speech-language pathologist Dr. Shari Rosen puts it, “My philosophy is that we if take care of the parents, they’ll take care of the child.”

What ELG offers
FULL DAY PROGRAMS
Our comprehensive programs cater to children of all ages, spanning Early Childhood (2 – 6), Young Learners (7 – 14), and Pre-vocational (14+) stages. Utilizing research informed practices, our approaches are crafted to be family and student-centered, strengths-based, and neurodiversity affirming. We utilize our high 3:1 staff-to-child ratio to deliver the personalized support essential for each child’s growth and development, all delivered by our international and local team of multi-disciplinary specialists and educators. Our professionals work together to implement Individualized Development Plans (IDPs) for every child, ensuring meaningful learning throughout the day. Through the IDP each child works on their individualized goals across seven domains including pre-academics, cognitive development, speech-language communication, gross/fine motor development, emotional and social development, self-help skills, and sensory development.
