A grand run at Haichang Ocean Park
Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park in the Pudong New Area is giving free entry to children with autism and their families through the end of April and rolling out a series of activities this spring.
The offer is open to all children with autism and their families from home or abroad and all parks and ocean pavilions of Haichang in China are involved.
The parks and ocean pavilions of Haichang will offer experiences such as public welfare runs, animal therapy and interactions, art exhibitions and charity bazaars, as well as expert healing clinics and science lectures.
Former men’s Olympic champion gymnast Li Xiaopeng (left) and former Olympic diving champion Lin Yue appear at the park over the weekend.
During the welfare month, Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park will host themed activities like “a star drift journey,” “love hug stop,” “healing formula,” “star mail station,” “light up the star plan,” “medical starlight diagnostic action” and “star market.”
Autism patients are dubbed by some as the “children of the stars,” because they are always immersed in their own world possessing a different mindset from other people.
The 2025 China Mermaid Open & International Mermaid Competition will run from April 16 to 20 at the park. Nearly 100 professional mermaid performers from China and abroad will meet in the azure waves, creating the “Olympics of the mermaid world” in a nearly 10-meter deep and seven degrees incline grand tank with 7,000 tons of water which makes it a top-tier competitive arena.
They will present an underwater visual feast, showing off their stunning skills and delivering a variety of programs.
