Sinan Mansions are beautified with new flower varieties.
A floral scene in Sinan Mansions
As Shanghai is blooming with the monthlong 2025 Shanghai International Flower Show, which presents a spectacular visual feast and an array of amazing activities, a series of new flower varieties were displayed and promoted in Sinan Mansions of Huangpu District on Thursday.
About 110 new horticultural varieties were brought by 13 well-known domestic and international flower breeding and production enterprises from multiple cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Hangzhou.
These include hybrid crabapple series featuring precision breeding and adaptation to urban habitats, zinnia elegans with outstanding resistance performance against heat, drought and disease, as well as Chinese roses and hydrangeas.
Many home-grown varieties have already been used to beautify the streets of Shanghai since they were introduced in a similar event last year, according to the city’s greenery authorities.

Among these, several new rose varieties have been planted along the city’s elevated roads, creating a flourishing scene.
More than 10 crape myrtle varieties are used in the city’s ecological park belt to form unique specialty gardens.
Other new flowers, such as large flowered crabapple and balsam, have decorated key areas like People’s Square, the Bund and Lujiazui during major events such as the National Day holiday and China International Import Expo (CIIE), adding a splash of color to the city.
The annual Shanghai International Flower Show is presented at two main venues in Huangpu Xintiandi and Shanghai Botanical Garden, and five sub-venues, Xuhui District, the Pudong New Area, Fengxian District, Lingang Special Area and Shanghai Binjiang Forest Park, with the total display area amounting to 390 hectares.

The event will run through May 11, turning the city into a kaleidoscope of colors.
At the two main venues, the “International Flower Language,” “Garden Story” and “Garden of Dreams” sections align with concepts such as “harmonious coexistence between humans and nature” and “park city,” and showcase 27 diverse garden attractions, using landscape art to express biodiversity and bridge the gap between people, cities, and nature, fostering the idea of harmonious coexistence.
The “International Flower Language” section, located in the Taiping Bridge green area at Huangpu Xintiandi, features gardens designed by internationally renowned landscape teams from the US, France, Germany, Japan and Singapore.

The Qiantan area in the Pudong New Area creates a temporary riverside flower path, while Xuhui District will collaborate with art colleges to decorate historic buildings such as the Shanghai Conservatory of Music’s Music Castle with floral arrangements, while hosting concerts, musical pop-ups, and other artistic interactions.
The Lingang sub-venue will launch a “Spring Arts Journey,” replicating the colors of famous paintings through floral arrangements and integrating famous artworks, literature, music, and nature into a cohesive experience.
